When a household is facing a crisis, immediate help can make the difference between falling further behind and taking the next step forward.

ECHO’s Emergency Resources Program provides basic necessities, practical guidance, and connections to additional community support for individuals and families in the Tallahassee/Big Bend area who are experiencing financial hardship, homelessness, or another urgent crisis. There is no charge for these services.

Depending on availability, ECHO may provide:

  • Food
  • Clothing and thrift-store partner vouchers
  • Diapers, formula, and car seats
  • Toiletries and basic household items
  • Seasonal items such as coats, heaters, and fans
  • Referrals to other community agencies and resources

Our staff members meet privately with each client to listen, understand immediate needs, and help identify appropriate next steps. We may also assist eligible clients with applications for public benefits such as SNAP or Medicaid, provide housing-related guidance and referrals, and offer a mailing address for people experiencing homelessness.

Receiving Assistance

Emergency Resources assistance is generally available once during a 12-month period, based on household need and available resources. Clients should bring a photo ID when seeking services.

For individuals and families who need more than one-time emergency help, ECHO may offer an opportunity to enroll in case management. Through ongoing, one-on-one support, clients can work with an ECHO case manager to set goals, address barriers, connect with resources, and build greater stability over time.

Emergency assistance can meet an immediate need. Case management helps create a path toward lasting self-sufficiency.
